- Trails unite us all and are the freedom and escape from a busy, complex world we all need.
- More people mountain biking is a good thing for our community; having trails for everyone is essential. Protecting and maintaining the trails we all enjoy is just some of the necessary work that we do.
- Without you, trails fall into disrepair. Our access is never guaranteed. It’s mountain bikers and our local organization that champion new trails. Fortunately, your generous support of ongoing trail stewardship keeps the fun of mountain biking going.
- Our members are united to protect the access we enjoy and are excited about being a force for developing more trails close to home.
- Thank you for your support! For as little as $5/month, you can make a difference.
Why join STORM?
Want more and better mountain bike trails in San Antonio? So do we. South Texas Off Road Mountain-Bikers (STORM) is your local all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit mountain bike and trail advocacy organization. We build new trails and improve existing ones. We build relationships with landowners and the City of San Antonio to increase trail access. We host mountain bike races and hold group rides to get more people on mountain bikes, including specific rides and clinics for women and kids. We represent the mountain bike community in countless forums to protect our trails and advocate for new ones.
The more members STORM has, the more powerful our collective voice and the bigger and better we can grow the mountain bike scene in the San Antonio area. Now is an important time to join STORM and add your voice to the hundreds of other mountain bikers in the greater San Antonio region. The 2022 San Antonio municipal bond was a huge success in getting more trails and MTB facilities in San Antonio. STORM is communicating with City Council members to make sure the voices of the MTB community are heard when it comes to planning and building these trails and amenities.
What is that worth to you?
If you love to ride mountain bikes as much as we do, please consider joining STORM. For less than $0.11/day (basic $39/year membership) or less than $0.17/day ($5/month membership), you can help ensure success.
Here is some of what we accomplished in 2022/2023:
- STORM hosted trail work opportunities resulting in over 1,430 volunteer hours equaling over $40,200 in sweat equity during trail building and trail maintenance activities (Jan 1, 2022 – Apr 30, 2023).
- STORM advocated for $3.25 million in 2022 San Antonio municipal bond funds for MTB trails and bike parks.
- Rebuilt the Red Trail Jumps at McAllister Park.
- STORM is building an MTB-only trail system in the new Classen-Steubing Ranch Park in northern San Antonio (opening in June 2023) while continuing to maintain the trails you love to ride through year-round trail maintenance efforts.
- STORM hosts an area along the linear creekways every year during the Basura Bash trash cleanup event.
- STORM represents the MTB community at the Parks & Recreation Board meetings, Linear Creekway Parks Advisory Board (LCPAB) meetings, Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAAC) meetings, Parks & Recreation public community input meetings, and other meetings as they occur.
