DESCRIPTION:https://www.un.org/en/observances/bicycle-day \nBackground\nAcknowledging the uniqueness\, longevity and versatility of the bicycle\, which has been in use for two centuries\, and that it is a simple\, affordable\, reliable\, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation\, fostering environmental stewardship and health\, the General Assembly decided to declare 3 June World Bicycle Day. \nIt encouraged stakeholders to emphasize and advance the use of the bicycle as a means of fostering sustainable development\, strengthening education\, including physical education\, for children and young people\, promoting health\, preventing disease\, promoting tolerance\, mutual understanding and respect and facilitating social inclusion and a culture of peace. \nThe Assembly welcomed initiatives to organize bicycle rides at the national and local levels as a means of strengthening physical and mental health and well-being and developing a culture of cycling in society.

DESCRIPTION:South Texas Off Road Mountain-Bikers (STORM) hosts this free monthly kid’s ride on the dirt trails at McAllister Park. This is a great opportunity for parents and children to get out on the dirt trails and see how fun mountain biking can be. Kids will learn basic trail skills and trail etiquette during this introduction to trail riding. Participants will meet in the field at the large parking lot near the McAllister Park Pump Track (https://goo.gl/maps/dYmf2uTzXKHgf9p7A)\, and the event will last from 9:00-11:30am. \nWhat to bring:\nRequired:\n– Bicycle\n– Helmet\n– Closed-toe shoes \nRecommended:\n– Sunglasses\n– Gloves\n– Water\n– Sunscreen \nThis event is “weather permitting” to protect the trail system. Updates and cancellations will be posted on the STORM South Texas Off Road Mountain-Biker Facebook page and the STORM website events page (https://stormmtb.org/events-calendar). \nParents or accompanying adults must sign a liability waiver for themselves and their child before the ride and may accompany their child on the ride.

Participants will meet in the field at the large parking lot near the McAllister Park Pump Track (https://goo.gl/maps/dYmf2uTzXKHgf9p7A)\, and the event will last from 9:00-11:30am. \nWhat to bring:\nRequired:\n– Bicycle\n– Helmet\n– Closed-toe shoes \nRecommended:\n– Sunglasses\n– Gloves\n– Water\n– Sunscreen \nThis event is “weather permitting” to protect the trail system. Meet\, ride\, and socialize with other ladies in the mountain biking community. \nWe will have several groups riding at different paces and skill levels. \nPlease be on time. We will meet at 6:30pm to sign waivers and discuss the group ride. No later than 6:45pm we will depart to start our social group ride. \n**Please bring lights as the ride will end as it gets dark** \nRide leaders will provide instruction on any feature in the park or any skill you struggle with. This is a great and free opportunity to practice and learn new skills on the trail. Bonus – you might find new MTB friends! \nPlease bring: \n\nA mountain bike in working order\nA helmet is required; your safety is our priority\nLight attached to your bike or helmet\nWater/snacks\n\nPlease RSVP.
