DESCRIPTION:South Texas Off Road Mountain-Bikers (STORM) hosts this free monthly kid’s ride on the dirt trails at McAllister Park. This is a great opportunity for parents and children to get out on the dirt trails and see how fun mountain biking can be. Kids will learn basic trail skills and trail etiquette during this introduction to trail riding. Participants will meet in the field at the large parking lot near the McAllister Park Pump Track (https://goo.gl/maps/dYmf2uTzXKHgf9p7A)\, and the event will last from 9:00-11:30am. \nWhat to bring:\nRequired:\n– Bicycle\n– Helmet\n– Closed-toe shoes \nRecommended:\n– Sunglasses\n– Gloves\n– Water\n– Sunscreen \nThis event is “weather permitting” to protect the trail system. Updates and cancellations will be posted on the STORM South Texas Off Road Mountain-Biker Facebook page and the STORM website events page (https://stormmtb.org/events-calendar). \nParents or accompanying adults must sign a liability waiver for themselves and their child before the ride and may accompany their child on the ride.

We will ride all dirt trails. ***\n(Rain or less optimal trail conditions will cancel the event.) \nMeet at OP Schnabel Park at about 6:00pm\, with wheels down at 6:30pm. All skill levels are welcome. This is a no-drop ride\, meaning leads and sweeps will keep the group together to ensure everyone makes it back. It is a 10+ mile ride typically lasting 2-3 hours. \nRequired: \n\nTrail-worthy mountain bike\nHelmet\nClosed-toe shoes\nWater bottle or hydration pack\nLights (if it will be dark before the ride ends)\n\nRecommended: \n\nSunglasses\nGloves\nSunscreen\nInsect repellant\n\nWe will ride the perimeter of OP Schnabel Park and the Leon Creek Greenway dirt trails. The route may vary depending on the ride leader. Please bring a trail-worthy bike\, helmet\, snack\, and plenty of water. If you have items to fix tire repairs or other bike mishaps\, please bring them. We will try to keep stops to a minimum\, depending on rider experience and knowledge of the trails. \nPlease indicate if you are willing to help as a sweep. We will meet at 6:30pm to sign waivers and discuss the group ride. No later than 6:45pm we will depart to start our social group ride. \n**Please bring lights as the ride will end as it gets dark** \nRide leaders will provide instruction on any feature in the park or any skill you struggle with. This is a great and free opportunity to practice and learn new skills on the trail.
